Pipes

A pipe carries events from one source to one destination. Functions can run on the way

On this page

Pipes created for you#

Connecting a website or a Zid store builds its pipe to the Sfere Data Warehouse automatically, so events are stored from the first page view. App and server sources need a pipe you add yourself.

Create a pipe#

  1. Open Pipes and select New pipe.
  2. Enter a Name. It is how the pipe appears in the list and in monitoring.
  3. Choose whether to Enable this pipe straight away. A paused pipe is created but delivers nothing until you enable it.
  4. Under Route, choose one Source and one Destination.
  5. Select Create pipe.

A source and destination pair can be joined only once. To send the same events to two destinations, create two pipes from the same source.

Add functions#

Functions are attached after the pipe exists. Open the pipe and go to its Functions tab to add a function that filters, transforms or enriches each event before delivery. See Functions.

View your pipes#

Pipes shows every route in a Visual view, with sources on one side and destinations on the other, and a List view. The summary counts how many pipes are active, how many need attention, and how many destinations are in use.

Pause a pipe#

Pause a pipe to stop delivery to its destination without deleting the pipe. Enable it again to resume delivery.
